WHAT PLANT DO YOU LOVE OR HATE MORE THAN ANY OTHER?

Thank you to all of you that weighed in on last month's topic - Sharing Secrets will continue as a monthly feature!

This month, we ask a tough question. For me, I would have to say that Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) wins my "hate" vote. I'm sure it's very nice wherever it came from, but I sure wish it had stayed there!

However, I have many plants I "love". For right now, I'll go with Naked Ladies (Amaryllis belladonna). It's always so nice to have them show up in the middle of our hot, brown summers!

I am unsure of its proper name, but by any name I loathe the weedy, vining, deciduous asparagus that frequently pops up uninvited in my garden, possibly bird-planted. It looks like an innocent, sweet, ferny green thing when young. However, if left unweeded it soon grows needle-like recurving spines along its stems. The nasty spines are the same color as the stems, so not particularly noticeable till one is stabbed. I've learned to use gloves and dig these out, no pulling lest I be bloodied by those spines. They are good at hiding under and behind other plants.

Like Laura's post, above, here's a shout-out for the lovely naked ladies, who never fail to appear in August!
